Charles Hibbitts and Amanda Baker married in November 1839 in Scott Co., Va. Their first cabin was the "Wheeler Senter's Place" in Russell Co., Va., present day Dickenson County, Va., where the first son Joseph was born in 1840.

About 1842 they moved to the "Billy Keith's Place" this is where Pollie (1842) and Richard (1844) were born.

The Hibbitts family then moved to the home place of Joseph and Ollie Stanley. It was located in the bottom land on the banks of the Cranesnest River. Charles and Amanda lived here for several years, this was the birth place of John (1846), Cornelius (1848), Ollie (1850), Nancy (1852) Solomon (1854) and Melvina (1856).

Hibbitts Children After the death of Joseph Stanley @ 1857, Charles moved Ollie Stanley and his family to a new cabin built on Hibbitts Hill over looking the Cranesnest River, this became known as "Hibbitts Gap".

It was here that the last child Charles R. (1858) was born. This would also be the last home of our fore father Charles Hibbitts. It was near this cabin that Charles was buried, after giving his life in the defense of his family and community during the Battle of Cranesnest on November 9, 1863.
